The Maida Vale House Project

The Maida Vale House Project

“We always knew we wanted a bespoke kitchen. We simply love the quality and the feeling of everything having its place. The interiors of the cabinets, the level of detail on the finishes, the quality and the craftsmanship are very important to me. Herringbone has an excellent product. One of the things I like best is that you not only design the bespoke kitchen, but you are able to make on-site adjustments and modifications as needed. This makes the whole process run smoothly.”

We had the pleasure of creating all of the cabinetry for this full house project in Maida Vale, London. This included the ground floor kitchen, home bar, media unit and laundry to upstairs the client’s bathroom vanities and fitted wardrobes. The Maida Vale Full House Project is a perfect example of how we can unify the interior of your home through full bespoke joinery projects.

“I did all the interior design myself. Working with Rob from Herringbone to set the tone for the kitchen ended up influencing the whole house. Herringbone also designed our bedroom wardrobes and our bathroom vanities (in addition to kitchen, media/family room, bar and laundry unit).”

The Kitchen

“We love all of it. The larder unit and the breakfast bar units are amazing and we use them every day.  I love the symmetry of the Herringbone design. I love the colour palate - Tudor Black and Cliff White, with brass accents on the faucet and cabinet hardware.”

The client knew they wanted something classic, chic and also comfortable and homey. The colour scheme of Tudor Black from the Herringbone Paints Range on the island and larder and breakfast unit combined with the Cliff White from the same range on the functional main run of the kitchen is a classic combination and incorporating the warmer tones of the herringbone patterned flooring, reeded glass in the cabinetry and the pendant lights above the kitchen island bring in lovely textures.

The kitchen style is Herringbone’s Westminster cabinetry, which flows throughout the house project. The client wanted the island to feel like a large table, and not to have the visual noise of a sink or other appliances. The main sink and Range Cooker are all focused on one side of the kitchen to enable the design to work well as well as look stylish. The worktop is a low-silica Silestone Calacatta Gold.

We loved Rob's ideas to bring in the breakfast bar units - one for coffee and tea, and the other where we could house items like our kitchen aid mixer - where they would sit on the countertop inside the cabinet, and we wouldn't have to take them in and out to use them.”

The Home Bar

What a bar! We love everything about it. The Tudor Black colour from the Herringbone Paints Range is continued from the kitchen as well as the Westminster Style cabinets. The reeded glass doors in the two floor to ceiling cabinets offer a glimpse into the family’s glass ware and the custom brass shelving in the middle of the unit showcases the beautiful bottles that becomes part of the design. The low-silica Calacatta Gold worktop and backsplash helps it become a focal point.

“We love is that the kitchen flows through to the family room (where we have a large built in media cabinet from Herringbone in Cliff White), and then into our conservatory where we have a beautiful bar unit in Tudor black with a bespoke brass and glass shelving unit.  It is gorgeous and the most talked-about unit in the house.”

The Ensuite

The bespoke master bedroom vanity unit is designed in Herringbone’s Westminster Style and features his and hers double sinks as well as drawers and doors for extra storage. Next to the bath is a fitted bespoke boiler cupboard to hide it away in a beautiful way. The colour on all cabinets is Studio Grey from Herringbone Paints Range. The worktop overhangs slightly to create a unique design that works well with the rest of the bathroom. The stone is low-silica Calacatta Gold.

The Wardrobes

Each fitted wardrobe in the master bedroom, guest bedroom and hallway is bespoke to the space available.

Designed in our Westminster Style and painted in Herringbone Paints’ Cliff White they are made to measure and designed with storage and style in mind.

Each door and drawer is fitted with satin brass handles and inside there is a mix of rails for hanging space and deep drawers for continued storage options. The hinges are polished brass.

We love how the design and the shaker style doors unify the upstairs space and how the light colour scheme offers a sense of brightness and calm.

The Guest Ensuite

The guest room, along with the fitted wardrobes, also has an ensuite, which Herringbone designed and made the vanity for. Again, the Calacatta Gold stone hangs slightly over the sides to create a grander effect. The colour is Jersey Blue from the Herringbone Paints Range and the cabinet style is Herringbone’s Westminster.

The Home Entertainment Unit

In between the family’s kitchen and home bar you find a comfortable living space. The back wall has been fitted with a spacious home entertainment unit, which fits their large TV and makes the space feel like a cinema room. To let the room flow with the rest of the house the Westminster cabinet units have been continued and so has the Cliff White paint colour.

We love the visual flow from kitchen to family room to conservatory, and how the color palate flows seamlessly through all three rooms (and also to the laundry room on the other side of the kitchen.  We went from this space feeling like a dark basement area, to it being a beautiful, thoughtful, light filled space that we love to use."

“We had an amazing journey with Herringbone Kitchens.  Ironically, I found Herringbone on Instagram after meeting with a few other cabinet companies.  Once I saw your work on your account, I was very impressed and interested in working with Herringbone.  I met with Rob and immediately clicked with him. We very quickly had a shared vision and his ideas aligned very closely with the direction I was hoping to go.”
