The Design

We recently completed this beautiful kitchen & utility project for a family in Woodford. Our clients chose bespoke cabinetry from our Rye range, our take on the traditional English kitchen. The Rye has a traditional shaker doors and a detailed frame called a cockbead. As with the Westminster this range, this range comes as standard with feet but can be changed to skirting if you wish.

We asked our lovely clients why they wanted a bespoke kitchen and what their vision was for their new space, they said:

“When we first started considering our kitchen we weren’t intending to go for bespoke, only wanting something that would nicely fit our space. As the design evolved, we wanted certain items that pushed us more towards Bespoke, which was an option Herringbone offered.

From day one we always wanted chimney feature with a range cooker and Versailles flooring. The focal point would be the chimney and the rest of the kitchen would be designed to accent that. With regards to colour, we always wanted a shade of green.”

The kitchen design consists of a large island, a run of cabinetry and drawers on either side of the range cooker and a stunning, large kitchen dresser unit to the right. To maximise on space, the countertop units feature pocket doors which open and slide away, making it easier to get in and out of the cupboards.

Making Your Dream Kitchen In The Workshop

One of the most exciting parts of being completely bespoke, is that we are able to create wonderful pieces tailor made to each client and their spaces. We make all our kitchens, utilities, wardrobes and more in our very own workshop in Canterbury and make sure every unit is crafted with care and precision.

The Dresser

“We found this piece in the showroom and thought it just looked lovely. However, I always wanted a unit with the bi-fold style doors, so after speaking to Will about it, he said that it would be possible to adapt the unit to include the bi-fold feature. So in the end we got the best of both.”

Hardware, Colours & The Finer Details

“Since we always wanted the green tone, we immediately fell in love with the Mylands Borough Market larder they had on display in the Herringbone showroom at the time. At times, we were unsure whether or not we were making the right choice in terms of colour, but in the end we all loved it so much that there wasn’t much doubt about it.”

I love how the chimney area has come out, its look so much better than I had imaged. The mirror splash back really adds an extra something and despite our fears of the colour being too dark, it looks really elegant in the space we have. The layout works so well for us and our lifestyle.”

Our lovely clients dressed their bespoke cabinetry with a mix of our Cotswold Bun Knobs and Cotswold Cup Pulls for their drawers, as well as a latch for their dresser cupboards. All in a beautiful burnished brass finish.

These are available to purchase now from our Pantry!

On Using Herringbone

“Our journey with Herringbone started just over two years ago. We embarked on huge renovation project of our home. At the time, we didn’t know what we wanted, all we knew was that the kitchen had to be the hub of the house. We explored and visited quite a few top high street brands as well as other well known bespoke traditional kitchen specialist. Herringbone had a portfolio of designs we really liked, but what made Herringbone stand out from the crowd was the personal touch. This started from the welcoming feeling you got right from the moment you enter the showroom till the final day of installation.

Canterbury is slightly out of the way for us and my husband and I had never visited it, we decided to make a day trip of it. While we were there we thought that no harm could be done by in popping in to the Herringbone showroom. Little did we know that that would be huge mistake. Will and Elly worked their magic on us, winning us over with their charm and of course their stunning products.

Throughout our long journey, Will has been amazing, always responsive to our questions, and I mean question after question. He even helped us to choose the colour for our bi-fold doors, which we didn’t even buy through Herringbone. The kitchen design really evolved in the two year time span. The Herringbone team handled every change incredibly, adapting the design until we were happy. Even on such late notice, they made our last minute changes possible. Despite a few misunderstandings along the way, Will has always honoured his commitment and never made us feel uncomfortable.

We want to express a huge thank you to Herringbone for the wonderful experience and the impeccable quality of the work, they’ve made our kitchen such a lovely place to be in. The Herringbone business is absolutely wonderful, with some amazing people within it. From the very first moment, we were really struck by the sense of family within the business, which really appealed to us.

Even though the Herringbone business has expanded vastly, Will and Elly have remained the same warm, welcoming people we met on our first visit to the showroom and they have made this journey a lot less stressful than it would have been.”
